The Problem of Creativity in Spiritual Education: Religious Understanding of Creativity in Creation Spirituality

영성수행에 있어서 명상과 묵상은 보편적인 방법이었지만, 창의성은 기독교의 영성과 교육에 있어서 중심이 된 적이 없었다. 이 논문은 미국의 영성신학자 매튜폭스가 재구성한 서양 기독교의 창조영성을 소개하면서, 창의성이 영성수행에 있어서 없어서는 안될 중요한 것임을 밝히고 있다. 특히 신과 인간의 영역, 육체와 영혼을 이분화시키고 인간을 죄인으로 억압하여 수동적으로 신의 은총을 기다려야 하는 서양 기독교의 주류전통인 타락/구속의 영성전통을 비판하고 창조영성을 통한 신과 인간의 불이론적 영역을 소개하며, 이 공통의 장에서 나오는 창의성과 예술정신이 영성수행의 중심임을 주장하고 있다. 창의성교육을 수강한 학생들의 피드백을 소개하면서, 이 논문은 창의성이 영성수행에 있어서 필수적이며, 창의성 교육은 학교와 교회에서 실천해야 할 것이라고 주장하고 있다.

Meditation and contemplation has been universal way of spiritual practice, but creativity has not been a major part in religious education. Introducing American spiritual theologian, Matthew Fox’s Creation Spirituality, this thesis highlights creativity is an important part of spiritual practice. This thesis makes a critique on Fall/Redemption spirituality which separates human from God and flesh from spirit. By doing so, it makes human nothing but sinner, and it should passively wait only God grace. This spiritual structure has oppressed human creativity. Through Creation Spirituality, this thesis introduces non-dual field of spiritual energy between God and human, the creativity and artistic spirit sprouting out from the field is the center of spiritual practice. Introducing an education about creativity and students’ feedback, this thesis assures that creativity must be practiced in spirituality, and education for creativity should be done in school and church.
