종교와 미디어의 생태공간 속에는 현대사회 종교의 특징들이 잘 드러나 있다. 현대의 종교교육내용에는 미디어와의 관계 속에 드러나는 현대 종교의 함의에 대한 설명이 포함될 필요가 있다. 이에 본 논문은, 종교적 미디어메시지’의 ‘생산’과 관련된 내용, 종교미디어의 컨텐츠 - 혹은 세속미디어에서 다루는 종교적 컨텐츠에 대한 내용, 종교미디어 메시지 수용자들에 대한 내용, 인터넷과 종교에 대한 내용, 그리고 문화연구의 관점에서 관찰한 종교현상에 대한 내용을 주요 주제로삼고, 여기에 나타난 현대 종교의 특징들과 존재양식을 종교 교육의 내용에 포함시킬 것을 제안한다. 구체적으로, 본 논문은 위의 주제에 대한 성찰을 통해 드러난 종교의 다음과 같은 특징들이종교교육에서 다루어 져야 함을 말한다. 첫째는, 종교의 확장성에 관한 문제이다. 이 문제에 대해 생각해 봄으로써, 교육자와 피교육자는 종교가 현대 미디어 사회에서 외연을 넓히는 방법 - 그리고 이 과정에 개입되는 정치-경제-사회적인 요인들에 대해 생각해 볼 수 있다. 둘째는 미디어 시대 종교 변동 시작점의 좌표와 영역의 문제이다. 이에 관해 본 논문은 미디어상의 종교적 컨텐츠가 종교 변동의 진원지가 될 수 있음을 밝혔고, 바로 이런 점을 종교교육 - 나아가 ‘종교와 미디어’교육에 포함시킬 수 있다는 점에 대해 말하였다. 셋째는 종교 효과의 구체적인 메카니즘의 문제이다. 이 문제는 곧 종교의 효과라는 것이 종교자체의 힘에 기인하는 것인가, 아니면 다른 사회적 장치나 제도의 힘과 결합될 때만 발휘되는 것인가, 더 나아가 후자의 효과에 종속되어 있는 것은 아닌가 하는 점을 숙고하도록 한다. 넷째는 인터넷과 종교의 관계에 대한 내용이다. 인터넷 시대에 이르러, 인터넷이라는 거울을 통해 현대 종교의 다양한 스펙트럼과 구체적인 실상들이 오히려 분명히 드러나는 면이 있다. 바로이점에 착안하여, 본 논문은 특히 인터넷과 종교의 부침에 관한 문제, 혼종성과 종교 정체성의 문제, 인터넷의 영성화에서 드러난 종교의 인식론적 영역에 대한 확장 동기 등을 종교교육에 포함 시킬 것을 제안한다. 끝으로, 문화연구의 관점에서 관찰한 종교현상에 대한 내용 역시 종교에 관한 교육의 주된 내용이 될 수 있다는 점에 대해 논의한다. 종교는 현대 사회 곳곳에서 형태와 모드를 달리하여 존재하고 있고, 종교 교육은 바로 이 점을 포착하여 현대사회 에 종교가 존재하는 그 특유의 양상에대해 설명할 수 있다.
It is through the media-religion ecosystem that much of characteristics of contemporary religion are revealed. Contemporary religious education needs to address underlying religious meanings implicated in the relation of religion with modern media. In light of this perspective, this article suggests that the following characteristics of religion revealed in religion-media ecosystem be discussed in religious education. First, the expansionability of religion needs to be considered. In this consideration, one can speculate the question as to 1) how religion expands its area in modern media society, and 2) how socio-cultural-political factors are involved in that process. Second, this study posits religious media contents can be the epicenter of religious changes, and religious education can deal with this point. Also, religious education should account for the fabric of religious effects, i.e., whether the effects originate from the power of religion itself, or are mediated through social apparatuses and system, or are even subordinate to them. Then, this study suggests religious education include the relation between religion and the Internet. In the age of the Net, the wide spectrum and concrete reality of religion tend to manifest itself more clearly than ever. Given this point, religious education needs to address 1) the effect of the Internet on religion and 2) the issue of hybridity and the reconstruction of religious identity. Also, religion’s motivation of expanding its epistemologic area reflected on the concept of ‘spiritualization of the Internet can be a necessary topic of the religious education in the Net era. Lastly, this study suggests that religious phenomena considered in terms of cultural studies perspectives be included in the education about religion. In consideration of all theses points, religious education can address the unique landscape of the contemporary religion.
