Emerging Issues and Visions of Christian Education in Korea

본 논문은 한국 개신교 종교교육의 상황을 비판적으로 성찰한 뒤, 포스트모던 패러다임에 부응하는 한국 기독교교육의 새로운 비전을 찾는데 그 목적이 있다. 이 목적을 성취하기 위하여 본 논문은 두 가지의 연구주제를 탐색하였다. 첫째는 국내외의 기독교교육학 연구주제들을 비판적으로 탐색하는 것이었다. 그 결과, 외국의 경우에는 종교수업이론, 신앙공동체이론, 신앙발달이론, 해방이론, 그리고 해석이론 등이 주요한 연구주제로서 현재까지 논의되고 있음을 확인하였다. 그리고 국내의 경우에는 외국의 경우와 크게 다르지 않으나 디지털사회에 부응하여 온라인교육과 기독교예술교육에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째는 과거 기독교교육에 대한 비판적 성찰을 전제로, 포스트모던 패러다임의 전환기에 요구되는 한국 기독교교육으로서 ‘삼중언어교육’이 제시되었다. 그것은 성서언어교육, 기독교예술언어교육, 그리고 영성언어교육이다. 여기서 성서언어교육은 복음서중심의 교육, 비판적 성서교육, 그리고 다중지능을 활용한 다양한 교수-학습방법의 활용이 제안되었다. 기독교예술교육은 학습자의 예술체험, 감각의 평등성, 그리고 예술언어의 계시성과 성례전성의 고려 등이 제시되었다. 그리고 영성언어교육은 영성형성으로서의 기독교교육, 다양한 영성전통의 존중, 그리고 한국인의 영성을 고려할 것 등이 제시되었다. 결국 삼중언어교육은 상호배타적인 교육이라기보다는 오히려 서로 밀접하게 연관된 교육으로서, 개신교 종교교육의 새로운 방향이라고 말할 수 있다.

The aim of this article is not only to critically reflect on the major themes of Korean Christian education, but it also looks for emerging issues and visions of Korean Christian education in future. First of all, the article finds that around 30 years the five major themes of religious education in the world are still effective, that is, religious instruction, faith community, faith development, liberation, and interpretation. In addition to that, in Korean church, two themes, on-line education and Christian arts, are emerging issues in Christian education. Based on the critical reflection on the past of Christian education, there are three implications as emerging issues for the Korean Christian education in paradigm shift era. First, Korean Christian education needs to focus on creatively “teaching the Bible” related on Four Gospels rather than Letters, critical Bible study at the church, and multiples intelligences. Second, “Christian art education” needs to be considered as a significant and rising issue in future. Thus, it is important that Christian educators encourage their learners to enhance the quality of aesthetical experiences, to balance different senses or equality of senses, and to be aware of sacramentality and God’s revelation through arts. Finally, it suggests that “spirituality” is also very important emerging issue in Korea Christian education. In order to do education of spirituality, Christian educator needs to keep in mind that definition of Christian education is about spiritual formation. In addition, respect to various different spiritual traditions, and Korean’s own indigenous spirituality so called “Pungyudo” should be considered in Korean Christian education in future.
