다문화사회에 있어 상생을 위한 대순사상의 제언

A Proposal by Daesoon Thoughts for Living Together in Multi-cultural Society

우리나라에서 다문화 또는 다문화사회에 대한 논의가 본격적으로 시작된 것은 2005년 이후의 일이다. UN의 보고서에 따르면 독특한 민족적 자부심을 표방하고 있는 한국사회도 2050년에는 한국 인구의 13.9%가 외국 이민자와 그 후손이 될 것이라고 전망하고 있다. 2011년 4월 말 현재 한국사회는 전체 인구의 2.8%가 이주 외국인이며 숫자로는 135만여 명에 달한다. 빠르게 증가하고 있는 이주 외국인들은 한국의 고유한 문화와 쉽게 융화하지 못하고 많은 갈등을 빚고 있다. 또한 한국 정부에서도 이들과의 문화적 갈등이나 충돌에 대해서 전문적인 예방조치나 대책이 없는 실정이다. 특히나 종교적인 측면에서는, 신념이나 체험의 배타성이 서로 다르게 작용하기 때문에 갈등이 표면화 된다면 사회적인 문제로 이어질 가능성이 매우 높다. 종교는 문화를 구성하는 핵심요소이며 민족적 정체성을 포괄하는 문화현상이다. 또한 다문화사회에 있어 종교는 다양한 구성원들의 의사를 표출하거나 수용하는 수단이 된다. 대다수의 국내 거주 외국인들은 한국의 종교 상황처럼 개인이 주체적으로 종교를 선택하지 못한다. 특히 무슬림의 경우는 더욱 그러하다. 이들은 자신들만의 종교 커뮤니티를 형성하며 종교적 정체성과 그들의 문화를 유지하려고 노력하고 있다. 그들과 한국인 배우자 사이에서 태어난 이른바 ‘코슬림’ 자녀들에게도 이슬람의 문화가 적극적으로 전수되고 있다. 우리는 다문화사회에서 세계화와 한국화를 균형 있게 이루어 나가야 한다. 그렇게 하기 위해서는 한국사회의 원주민과 이주민들이 공존할 수 있는 지혜를 익히지 않으면 안 된다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 다문화적 사회현상의 한국적 전개 양상을 살펴보고, 상생과 공존을 위한 대순사상의 제언을 통해 바람직한 종교 문화의 방향성을 고찰해 보고자 한다.

It was after 2005 that Korean people started focusing on multi-cultural society and multi-culture. Moreover according to an article by UN, although Koreans have unusual ethnic pride, the Korean society at 2050 will be a multi-cultural society, with 13.9% of the whole population married to a foreigner. Right now in April 2011, 2.8% of the population is foreigner living in Korea and that is 1.35 million in numbers. However the foreigners do tend to face discord when they have difficulties following Korea’s culture. What matters more is that there is no properly prepared ways by Korea’s government to prevent or countermeasure these difficulties faced by foreigners. Especially when it comes to a religious matter the discord arises even further. Due to the fact that religion is strictly exclusive in the fields of faith and experience, the discord can then become a social issue. Religion plays a very important part in the composition of society and it embraces ethnic identity. Moreover in a multi-cultural society, religion allows various members of that society to express themselves and accept others. Most of the foreigners living in Korea can not ‘choose’ their religion on their own. Muslim is a good example for this. They create and belong in their own religious community and tries their best to keep the identity and culture of their own. The culture is passed down very enthusiastically even to ‘Ko-slim’, child between Korean and Muslim. In this multi-cultural world, we must balance globalization and ‘Korean-ization’, and to do that we must learn to co-exist with the foreigners. So in this article we will focus on the multi-cultural effect in Korea’s society, and would like to consider the proposal by Dae-soon Thoughts for living together and co-evolving society.
