Current Status and Future of Domestic and Foreign Fuel Cells

Roadmap to revitalize the hydrogen economy includes a variety of plans for establishing industrial ecology which leads hydrogen society with two principal axes of hydrogen vehicles and fuel cells. Based on the government strategy, current technical status of fuel cells for household, buildings, and power generation is shown with representative products of domestic and foreign industries. Beyond cell stack manufacture, essential components of fuel cell system have been developed with the target of localization. On the other hand, fuel cell system needs to secure long lifetime and high electrical efficiency in order to produce stable electricity as well as heat regardless of cell stack development with own capability. Also, the fuel cell system can be applied with other renewable energy systems with high flexibility. Finally the prospect of the fuel cell technology can be forecast with the future energy spectrum.
