Korean Identity & the Religious Education of Protestantism

이 논문은 한국인의 정체성 문제와 종교교육의 과제 라는 주제를 한국개신교의 자리에서 살펴본 것이다. 이를 위해 한국인의 정체성을 종교사적 맥락에서 살펴보았다. 한국 종교사의 맥락에서 필자가 주목한 것은 조화의 정신이었다. 조화의 정신은 한국인의 종교적 정체성의 기반을 이루어왔다. 다음으로 근대 서양 종교(그리스도교)의 수용과 함께 나타난 새로운 상황에 대해 주목하였다. 한국 종교사에 새롭게 종교간 경쟁과 갈등의 시대가 도래한 것이다. 이러한 역사에 대한 반성적 성찰을 통해 개신교 교육의 한 가지 과제를 설정할 수 있다. 종교들의 조화를 지향하는 대화 교육이 그것이다. 한국 개신교사의 맥락에서 중요하게 검토한 문제는 개신교의 문명사적 역할에 대한 것이었다. 오늘날 개신교는 규모에 걸맞은 문명적 역할을 충분히 담당하지 못하고 있다. 이러한 현실에 대한 반성적 성찰을 통해, 개신교 종교교육의 과제들을 설정할 수 있었다. 지역 문화 선교 교육과 평화 교육이 그것이다.

This thesis is a survey on the theme, the issue of Korean identity and the task of Religious education in the view of Korean Protestantism. For this, it is necessary to consider this issue of Korean identity in the context of religious history. In this point, I have noticed the spirit of harmony. This has been a basis of the religious identity of Korean people. And I also pay attention to a new situation which appeared simultaneously with the acceptance of modern western religion(Christianity). It can be said that a new period of competition and conflict among religions in the religious history of Korea. Through this reflective self-examination, it is possible to suggest the task of religious education of Korean Protestantism. It is to educate how to converse each other for the harmony of religions. In the context of Korean Protestant history, I attach great importance to the function of Protestantism as a member of the history of civilization. Current Protestant Church seems to fail in its duty. Reflective self-examination on this reality enables us to propose mission-education for local cultures and peace-education as the task of religious education of Protestantism.
