교육종교학 성립의 필요성과 전망

A study for setting the direction of Religion of education

최근의 종교에 대한 교육적 관심은 교육학 연구자들의 폭넓은 관심분야와 활발한 연구활동의 반영으로 이해될 수 있다. 실제로는 종교 그 자체에 대한 관심이라기 보다 교육현상에 대한 종교적 측면을 새삼 환기시키면서, 본격적인 논의의 필요성을 절감하는 것이라 할 수 있다. 학문 체계가 선험적으로 주어진 절대적 체계가 아니라 끊임없이 변화, 생성하는 과정 속의 산물이라는 점을 인정한다면, 교육학의 새로운 연구 영역에 대한 관심을 본격적으로 논의하기 위한 ‘담론의 장(field of discourses)’의 필요성에 공감하지 않을 수 없을 것이다. 마찬가지로 교육현상에 대한 종교적 측면을 연구하기 위해서는 이들 논의를 적극적으로 수용할 수 있는 새로운 학문의 영역이 필연적으로 요청된다고 할 수 있다. 이를 통하여, 교육학의 새로운 탐구영역의 개척 가능성을 열어둘 수 있고, 교육학의 학문적 성격을 재고할 수 있는 기회가 주어질 수 있기 때문이다. 본 연구는 교육현상의 종교적 측면을 다루기 위한 학문영역으로서 교육종교학을 제안하고, 교육종교학 성립의 필요성과 그에 따른 몇가지 전제들을 제시하고자 하였다. 교육학에 새로운 학문 분야를 제안하는 것은 지극히 조심스러운 접근을 요하지만, 변화하는 학문관에 따른 교육학의 정체성 문제에 대처하고 나아가 교육학의 학문적 성숙을 위한 과정에서 넘어야할 불가피한 시도가 아닐 수 없다.

In recent years there has been renewal of educational interest in religion. Actually, it is not educational interest in religion, but interest in the religious aspects in educational phenomena. It is good evidence to show that the subjects of the educational researches have been broadened and the active researches on that have been made by scholars. To argue the religious aspects in educational phenomena, new field for discourses will be needed, because the organization of disciplines is continuously changing and creating to prepare the fields for the exploration of new subjects. This paper suggests a necessity on Religion of education for discussing the relationship between religion and education. Religion of education will throw new light on the educational interest on religion, by identifying the domain of discourses and verifying the prerequisites of inquiry.It will need some careful attention to propose new domain of inquiry, but the study may have something to offer to any investigator, in formal education or outside of it, who seeks perspective of religion in his own educational researches.
