시각적 사고 전략(VTS)을 활용한 그림책 수업에서 나타나는 심미적 감성 역량

Aesthetic Sensitivity Competency through the Picture Book Class Using Visual Thinking Strategies

본 연구에서는 그림책 수업에서 시각적 사고 전략(VTS)을 적용하였을 때 학습자들에 게 기대할 수 있는 심미적 감성 역량 함양 효과에 대해 고찰하였다. VTS는 미술관에서 미술 감상 방법의 일환으로 시작되었으나 다양한 교과와 매체에 적용할 수 있다는 특징이 있다. 이에 따라, 초등학교 4학년 귀국학생반 8명을 대상으로 VTS를 활용한 영어 그림책 삽화 읽기 수업 4차시를 실시하였다. 수업 중 대화 내용과 페들렛 메모, 수업 후 비평문 및 인터뷰 내용을 양적, 질적 분석하였으며, 그 결과 VTS는 관찰, 정교, 추론, 근거, 추측, 수정의 6가지 사고력뿐 아니라, 증거성 추론, 주관성 인식 등의 고등사고능력 및 문화 이해와 스캐폴딩, 미적 양식 발견, 흥미, 자신감 등의 심미적 감성 역량을 증진시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 VTS의 효과와 가능성에 대해 확인하였으며, 다양한 교과 교육 활동에서의 활용 가능성을 제언하였다.

In this study, the effect of cultivating the aesthetic sensitivity competency that can be expected from learners when applying Visual Thinking Strategies in reading the picture book classes was considered. VTS was started as part of an art appreciation method in art museums, but it has the characteristic that it can be applied to various subjects and media. Accordingly, four lessons of English picture book illustration reading classes using VTS were conducted for eight returnees in the fourth grade of elementary school. The contents of conversations, Padlet notes, art criticisms, and interview were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. As a result, VTS improved not only the six thinking skills of observation, elaboration, reasoning, evidence, speculation, and revision, but also higher thinking skills such as evidence reasoning, subjectivity awareness and the aesthetic sensitivity competency like cultural understanding, scaffolding, aesthetic style discovery, interest, and confidence. As a member of cultural community, the ability to respect the expression of others can be cultivated. The researchers can validate the effect of utilizing VTS toward aesthetic sensitivity competency and suggest the possibility of adapting VTS in various subject education activities.
