초등 과학 교과서의 안전 주의 사항 제시 실태 분석 및 실험 안전에 대한 교사와 학생의 인식

An Analysis of Safety Precautions in Elementary Science Textbooks and the Perception of Teachers and Students about Experimental Safety

본 연구에서는 교과서의 안전 주의 사항 제시 현황을 분석하고, 교사의 안전에 대한 인식과 안전 확보를 위한 지도 현황 및 학생들의 안전 의식 실태를 파악하여 탐구 활동의 안전 확보를 위한 방안 마련을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 2015 개정 초등학교 3∼6학년 과학 교과서를 분석하고, 교사 65명과 학생 137명을 대상으로 설문을 진행하였다. 연구 결과 전체 교과서에 포함된 안전 주의 사항은 135개였으며, 안전 주의 사항을 추가로 제시할 필요가 있는 탐구 활동은 15개였다. 대부분의 교사가 맛보기와 냄새 맡기 탐구 활동을 지도한 경험이 있었으며, 안전 장비를 착용하고 학생들에게도 안전 장비 착용을 지도하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 교사는 배포된 실험 안전 매뉴얼을 이해하고 있었고, 맛보기와 냄새 맡기 활동 및 일회용 플라스틱 컵에 담긴 물질에 대해서는 안전성에 대한 우려를 갖고 있었다. 학생들의 안전 의식을 분석한 결과 실험복을 착용하지 않는 경우도 있었으며, 자신에게는 안전사고가 일어나지 않을 것이라는 신념을 가진 경우도 다수 있는 것으로 파악되었다. 따라서 과학 탐구 활동 중에 발생하는 안전사고를 예방하기 위하여 안전의 우려가 있는 탐구 활동의 경우 교과서에 안전 장비를 준비물로 제시하고 안전 주의 사항을 명확하게 제시할 필요가 있으며, 성취기준 도달을 위해 필수적이지 않은 맛보기와 냄새 맡기 활동의 경우 삭제하고, 일회용 플라스틱 컵에 담긴 물질을 제시한 사진은 수정할 필요가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the current status of safety precautions in textbooks, identify the status of teachers and students safety consciousness, and propose measures to secure safety in inquiry activities. Science textbooks from the 3rd to 6th grades of 2015 revised elementary school were analyzed, and a survey was conducted on 65 teachers and 137 students. The study results showed that 135 safety precautions were included in the entire textbook and 15 additional inquiry activities were needed to present safety precautions. It was found that most teachers were experienced in teaching tasting and smelling inquiry activities, and that teachers wear most of the safety equipment and guide students to wear it as well. Teachers understood the experimental safety manual, and they had safety concerns about tasting and smelling activities contained in disposable plastic cups. Analysis of students insensitivity to safety revealed that there were cases where lab clothes were not worn, and that there were many cases where they believed that safety accidents would not occur. To prevent safety accidents that occur during scientific inquiry activities, it is necessary to present safety equipment as a preparation material in textbooks and safety precautions. If reaching the achievement standards is inessential, it is necessary to delete tasting and smelling activities and modify the photos showing substances in disposable plastic cups.
