바울, 루터, 웨슬리 생애의 다중사례 연구를 통한 외상과 심리영성발달 관계 탐구

An Exploration on the Relationship between the Trauma and Psychospiritual Development based on the Multiple Case Studies of Apostle Paul, Martin Luther, and John Wesley

이 연구는 Covid-19로 인한 심리적 외상을 경험하는 사람들이 많은 현재의 한국 사회에서 한국 교회와 기독교인들이 외상을 잘 극복하고 승화시켜 더 깊은 차원의 성장과 심리영성발달을 경험할 수 있을 가능성에 관해서 탐구하였다. 이를 위하여 기독교의 영성가였던 사도 바울, 마틴 루터, 존 웨슬리의 생애의 외상과 외상 후 성장 경험을 생애에 관한 주요 자료를 토대로 주요 사건, 양육 환경에 대한 분석을 통해서 다중사례 연구방법을 사용하여 탐색하였다. 또한, 이 논문에서는 세 인물의 심리발달을 이해하기 위해서 Kohut의 자기심리학과 다양한 외상 관련 심리학 연구를 활용하였다. 이 연구를 통해서 세 인물의 공통 경험은 1) 성장기의 권위 있는(authoritative) 양육 경험, 2) 이상, 포부, 자기 성찰 능력, 3) 회복 탄력성, 4) 영성 추구와 이타심, 5) 통합적 심리영성발달 경험으로 요약되었다. 이 연구는 아이를 키우는 부모와 외상 내담자를 만나는 기독상담사에게 시사하는 바가 크고, 인간으로서 겪는 실존적 경험인 외상을 회피하지 않고 지속해서 심리발달과 영성발달을 경험하는 데 도움이 되리라고 기대한다.

This study is an exploration on the possibility of overcoming trauma and experiencing much deeper growth and psychospiritual development for the Korean church and Christians in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, this article used major resources on the life, major events, and growing environments of three historical figures, Apostle Paul, Martin Luther, and John Wesley, and employed the research method of multiple case studies. In addition, it draws Heinz Kohut’s self psychology and various psychological studies on trauma in order to understand psychological development of those three figures. Through this research, we found out common experiences of three figures: 1) authoritative parenting experience, 2) ideal, aspiration, and self-reflection ability, 3) resilience, 4) seeking spirituality and altruism, and 5) integrative psychospiritual development. This study provides implications for parents and Christian coun-selors who treat clients with trauma. It is expected to help them continue to experience psychological and spiritual development without avoiding trauma.
