Counseling strategies for the clients who are involved with new religious movement in Korea

This article explores the psychological factors and counseling strategies for the clients who are involved with New Religious Movement. The author delineates the confused feelings caused by the lack of the stable belief system, feelings of primary isolation and secondary isolation, family re–enactment, splitting defense and moral defense. Also, the author explicates counseling stages and necessary suggestion at each stage in practicing counseling with the clients involves with New Religious Movement. The counseling stages are diagnostic stage, therapeutic alliance stage, exploring of main issues stage, correcting the distorted belief system stage, remembering stage, building up therapeutic community stage,reinforcing the family resource, and termination.
