This study was performed to investigate the influence spirituality of the participants of the therapeutic community program has on the rehabilitation of addiction. The study subjects were 107 members from five institutions in Seoul, Gyeonggi–do, and Chungchung–do that use the therapeutic community model. In measuring the level of rehabilitation of addiction, the “Stages of Change Readiness and Treatment Eagerness Scale”(SOCRATES), developed by Miller and Tonigan(1996), was used, and the spirituality was measured by the Spirituality Assessment Scale(SAS) developed by Howden(1992). First of all, the effects were measured by seeing how the spirituality respectively affected COGNITION, ACTION, and AMBIVALENCE, which are the sub–factors in the stage of change. The following were the results. The spirituality was shown to have influenced the COGNITION and ACTION areas but was less affective in AMBIVALENCE. Another example how the sub–factors of spirituality affects COGNITION, ACTION, and AMBIVALENCE in absolute relative view was that in cognizing drinking problems, the relation of spirituality influenced the most, and in the ACTION, inner resources were what brought most change. This research was a quantitative study in attempt to explain the recovery of addiction in spiritual view.
