This thesis presumes that pursuing the growth of a person through pastoral counseling is not only to ensure the cure of the person’s abnormals mentioned in the bible, but also to have the person’s growth reach the state of ‘Whole Person Salvation’and ‘Sanctification’. Under such an assumption, the author intended to provide a theological basis on the growth of a person (or persons) by considering Clinebell’s concept of growth; in such points of view as ‘biblical & theological’, ‘pastoral counseling’and ‘whole person salvation’. Hence, the author extracted and put supplementary modification on some parts of the doctor’s thesis titled ‘A Study on Practice of Howard J. Clinebell’s Growth Counseling’written in December, 2009. Clinebell, in the point of ‘biblical & theological view’, describes the growth of a person as the process of sanctification to recover the wholeness restricted owing to a man’s sin. He also, in the view-point of ‘pastoral counseling’, understands that the growth of a person is‘ the process of selfactualization’. to accomplish one’s ample potential to the utmost. The representation of wholeness and one’s ample potential stands for God’s Image or personality of Jejus. As the perspectives mentioned above differ only by the terminologies used in each case, it can be regarded that they offer the same theological basis on the growth of a person as below. First, the perspectives sees the relationship between human and God in the context of creation-fallredemption. Second, the recovery of wholeness is a life-long journey, which is to follow the sequential process of Regeneration-Sanctification-Glolification. Third, the nature of growth means the completeness of salvation given to a person as the result of Jesus’redemption on the cross, and we can know (that) the growth itself is the change made through Holy Spirit’s work. In other words, the growth can be made in the relationship between God and a person; in this process, Holy Spirit helps a person accomplish wholeness. Also the sequential process can be described as the process of Sanctification or the Whole Person Salvation. This process accompany not only the change of personal character but also the maturation of belief. It is also a process of revealing God’s Image and resembling Jesus’personality. This process is, in the biblical & theological view-point, defined as the process of sanctification, and as the process of God-actualization in the view-point of pastoral counseling. As a result, we can regards it as the same context as the concept of‘ whole person salvation’. According to the above three concepts as in the sequential process, a person’s growth led by pastoral counseling stands for all the maturation accomplished in the over-all realm of a christian’s personality, spirituality and relationship by virtue of Jesus Christ’s redemption on the cross and Holy Spirit’s work. Therefore, the author determines that a christian’s growth must be conducted in pursuit of all the processes of Sanctification, realizing God’s Image and whole person salvation.
