Development of the Group Counseling Program to Enhance Happiness through Reframing Family-of-Origin Emotional Health

The group counseling program to enhance happiness is studied, and developed from the viewpoint of reframing family-of-origin emotional health in this paper. The effects of the program are intensively investigated within the relation of family-of-origin, self-differentiation and happiness. Twenty two middle-aged, Christian were voluntarily participated in the group counseling program as subjects for this research. They were divided into two groups: an experimental group (n=10) and a control group (n=10). The experimental group participated in an intensive happiness group counseling program for 20 hours. The program is designed to be applicable for 10 sessions of 120 minutes per session program. A quantitative analysis for both groups was conducted including Family-of-Origin Scale, Differentiation of Self Scale and The Oxford Happiness Inventory. An ANCOVA method is used to compare and analyze the data of the two groups. The results are as follows: First, the group counseling program for enhancing happiness is effective on family-oforigin’s emotional health, self-differentiation, and happiness. Second, the correlation of Family-of-Origin Scale scores, Differentiation of Self Scale scores and The Oxford Happiness Inventory scores is statistically significant. Third, self-differentiation explain 36.3% of happiness level.
