Scale for Children’s Nurture in the Christian Faith

  • 52

The purpose of this study was to develop an Evaluation Scale for Christian Children’s Nurture. The research was conducted with relevant literature reviews, interviews and surveys. From this research, I have discovered that there are many factors which influence children’s nurture in the Christian faith. This includes views of parents’toward Christianity, views of men, religious discipline, character, relationships and discipline. The survey was based on the research, and the questionnaire was assessed and approved by reputable experts in the field. The scale for the first preliminary inquiry consisted of 114 questions and 15 questions of validity. Scoring was calculated using a Likert-type scale, scaling 1 to 4 (1: strongly disagree - 4: strongly agree). The subjects of the preliminary inquiry were 242 Christian parents. The results of the survey displayed an accurate measuring system of the scale. Five correlating factors were produced from the analysis of data. The Christian Children’s Nurture Evaluation Scale’s (CCNES) total score demonstrated an excellent internal reliability (Cronbach’s =.979), and five factors demonstrating a reasonable reliability (Cronbach’s =.884-.927). Additionally, to verify the convergent validity of the developed scale, the Shepherd Scale was also conducted upon 250 Christian parents. A very high correlation of results was discovered between the CCNES and the Shepherd Scale. Significant differences in the CCNES were found between Christian and non-Christian groups. Thus, the CCNES exhibited a positive validity. The limitation of this study and the practical uses of the CCNES have been discussed.
