The purpose of this study is to introduce and review Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)--an evidence-based treatment for children with disruptive behavior and further examine whether or not it can be applied to Korean families. This study first examines PCIT’s theoretical background, treatment characteristics and treatment structure and content. Next, this study reviews all available and relevant literature regarding PCIT and its proven effectiveness in treating children with disruptive behavior. The writer will also assess preliminary support suggesting its success in the cases of childhood issues related to anxiety or child abuse. Third, recent studies on the adaptability of PCIT to other cultures beyond the Western world, specifically US Caucasian children, will also be examined. Finally, based on the aforementioned information, this study will suggest consideration points for the adaptation of PCIT to Korean families.
