칼 융(Carl Jung)의 개성화(Individuation) 과정과 중생(Rebirt)에 대한 상담신학적 담론

A Psycho-Theological Conversation on Carl Jung s Individuation Process and Rebirth

  • 11

The major concern for contemporary people, according to psychologist Carl Jung, is “self-actualization,”or “individuation.”The result of self-actualization is to be altruism. In spite of altruism is cannot be the absolute result of self-actualization, it is the most appropriate answer. This self-actualization is a task to be continued throughout life. But many of us do not involve in this process because of lacking of concern. As a result of it we have been troubled because of meaninglessness throughout life process. There is possibility that the Protestant church and minsters can give the answer for neurosis resulted from meaningless, but most patients suffered from neurosis have seldom visited and sought ministers for help. Why? Protestant churches lack of rites, which can emanate some psych energy for participants, and they don’t have enough knowledge and tools to heal and counsel mid-lifers’essential problems. In order to recover from these insufficiencies what is needed is to have and learn adequate psychological tools and knowledge. In this sense, we may realize how much psychological understandings and tools are crucial for contemporary people. One of the mayor concerns in Protestant church is the issue of ‘rebirth.’But we may ask a question like this - “how much the rebirth is important for moderns.”As Jung indicates that all kinds of knowledge, including religious thoughts, comes from the past. As it were, this statement implies that all christian heritages such as knowledge is the product of past centuries, which is very hard to communicate with nowadays’s people. In this difficult situation what we can overcome it and bridge it is to introduce and use Carl Jung’s individuation process to people. The individuation process shows us that how much we have suffered from our milieu such as family and society. And this sufferings or trauma still remain in our memory in the patterns of shadow, persona, and anima & animus. As we analyze, learn and understand what were remained shadow, and persona, anima & animus, the rebirth will be effectively regarded, remembered, practiced as the most essential process for people.
