There are so many dysfunctional families in modern society with a high-tech civilization. The solution-focused therapy, one of brief family therapies, is very effective model to solve family problems. The model is a short-term approach using a positive goal-oriented question method. The therapy has four types of questions; exception questions, miracle questions, coping questions, and scaling questions. Some therapists use questions to guide clients appropriately. The solution-focused therapy is applicable and effective approach model that can be actively used in helping the patients and families. The therapy also was proved of highly successful results and brief therapy sessions through many studies. Is it possible of the model to be used in pastoral counseling? Is this approach applicable to the cases with pastoral counseling? The pastoral counseling is based on the Biblical method, prayer, church resources and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Consequently we have to confirm the truth or accuracy of social scientific theory comparing with a theological standpoint. The solution-focused therapy takes advantage of the effectiveness of languages and question methods. Pastoral counselor also can use the principle of the brief therapy. We can create the languages of pastoral counseling for pastoral care and guide in a church situation. This thesis seeks after the similarities and differences between the brief therapy and pastoral counseling.
