The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the personality types and stress coping styles of the students majoring in christian counseling. The findings from this study will be utilized to enhance curriculum. In addition, it assists students to understand their characteristics of personality as future counselors and to cope with stress effectively. The subjects were 82 students majoring christian counseling at Korea Baptist Theological University, the instruments used in this study were Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(MBTI) for the personality types, and the stress coping styles scale by Folkman & Lazarus(1985). The data were analyzed by SPSS Win 12.0 package program, and statistical methods used were frequency analysis, cross analysis, independent t-test, pearson s correlation analysis, and one-way ANOVA. The findings of this study were summarized as followings: 1. As a result of distributions of MBTI personality types, in the case of christian counseling students, feeling type(F=53.7%)is higher than that of the general Korean university students at preferential types of personality. And the Sensing-Feeling(SF) was predominant by 39% in the distribution of functional types, the ISFJ type showed the highest percentage (15.9%) of all the personality types. 2. As a result of distributions preferential types of personality according to sex and the faith of the mother s womb, 1)males are more predominant at thinking(T=61.9%)and perceiving(P=57.1%) type than females are more predominant at feeling (F=59.0%) and judging(J=63.9%). 2)And the Sensing-Feeling(SF) was predominant in the distribution of personality functional types in the cases of females and the faith of the mother s womb. 3. The relationships of major satisfaction, the self-perceived the counselor s quality, to the stress coping styles, major satisfaction is positively correlated with problem-focused coping styles, the counselor s quality is positively correlated with problem-focused and wish-centered thought coping styles. 4. In the study of stress coping styles by personality types, the Extraversion(E) type group utilized more significantly the social support pursuit than the introversion(I) type group. In addition to the judging(J) type group used more significantly the problem-focused coping style and the social support pursuit than the perceiving(P) type group. The findings indicated that students majoring in Christian Counseling have the F personality type which is a critical quality for counselors who need the emphatic ability. Also, E and J groups have the problem-focused coping style and social support pursuit. Those findings will be utilized to the education of the preliminary counselor.
