Prediction of Steam Energy Consumption for Energy Saving in Food Processing Plant Heating Process

The steam energy consumption of the heating process in the food processing plant was estimated based on the Excel program. The heating process in a food processing plant has two characteristics :a batch process and a heating process operation logic for each food product group. Steam mass (kg) and energy consumption (kcal) were determined by summing the values of each temperature logic step. The actual steam mass was measured with a flow meter installed in the steam supply pipe of the heating process system and compared with the predicted steam mass. It was confirmed that the steam mass and energy consumption predicted based on Excel are affected by ‘product input’. The steam energy consumption was predicted based on the prediction program by dividing the minimum, average, and maximum values. The ratio of heat loss among total heat energy input increased as the excess steam supply rate increased, and was distributed up to 54.1% of the total steam energy consumption at the maximum steam energy consumption.
