의암(毅菴) 유인석(柳麟錫)과 ‘관일약(貫一約)’의 유학적 의미

The Confucian meaning of Uiam Yoo In-seok and ‘Gwanil Yak’

이 글의 목적은 의암(毅菴) 유인석(柳麟錫, 1842-1915)이 일제강점기에 국민의 사상적 결집을 주도하면서 제정·시행한 ‘관일약’의 유학적 의미를 고찰하는 것이다. 이를 위해 󰡔毅庵集󰡕, 󰡔국역 의암집󰡕 그리고 유교 경전 등을 중심으로 하여 다음과 같이 구성하였다. 2장은 당시의 국내외 정세에 관하여 논하였고 3장은 관일약의 근본 뜻, 목적 그리고 그 전개 과정을 논하였으며 4장은 관일약의 4가지 강령(綱領)에 인의(仁義), 정명(正名) 그리고 도(道)의 실천적 의미가 있음을 고찰하였다. 의암에 관한 선행연구는 의병 활동과 저서에 관한 사실적 연구가 주를 이루면서 그의 업적을 알리는 데 일조하였다. 이 글은 여기에서 더 나아가 관일약의 사상적 의미를 고찰함으로써 의암 연구에 관한 새로운 시도를 하였다. 근간 코로나19 팬데믹으로 많은 사람이 위기를 느끼고 있다. 이에 대응하는 철저한 방역수칙이 요구되는 상황에서 의암이 당시 사상적 결집을 주도하였던 관일약의 의미를 고찰하는 것은 시의성이 있다고 할 것이다. 또한, 역사적 사실 연구에서 더 나아가 사상적으로 숙고함으로써 의암 연구의 확장과 철학적 사유의 가치에 일조할 것이다.

The purpose of this article is to consider the Confucian meaning of ‘Gwanil Yak’, which was established and implemented by Yoo In-seok (1842-1915), who led the people s ideological unity in Japanese colonial era. To this end, the contents of the research of the younger scholars were composed of 󰡔Wuiamjip󰡕, 󰡔Wuiamjip interpreted in Korean󰡕, and Confucian scriptures as follows: Chapter 2 discussed the domestic and foreign situations at that time, Chapter 3 discussed the development process centered on the fundamental meaning and purpose of the Guanil Yak, and Chapter 4 considers the four a big plot underlying of the Guanil Yak have practical meanings of the right thing to do as a person, Preliminary studies on Uiam mainly contributed to his achievements with realistic studies of his righteous army activities and books. Furthermore, this article made a new attempt on the study of Uiam by considering the ideological significance of Guanil Yak. Many people are in crisis due to the recent coronavirus pandemic. Given the need for thorough quarantine rules in response to this, it would be said that it is timely to consider the meaning of the Guanil Yak, which led the ideological unity of Uiam at that time. Further consideration in historical fact studies will also contribute to the expansion of Uiam research and the value of philosophical reasons.
