섣부른 휴머니즘을 넘어선 선교

Mission Beyond Mediocre Humanism: Theological Suggestions for Social Responsibility of the Korean Adventist Church

본 연구는 현장에서 교회의 사회활동을 하나의 선교적 도구로 인식하는 고정관념을 깨뜨리고, 하나님나라 복음에 기초하여 ‘교회의 사회적 책무’를 통전적 차원에서 재확인하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 교회의 사회활동을 단순히 전도를 위한 도구로 보는 인식을 넘어서지 못하면 이것들은 ‘알량한 선심’이나 ‘섣부른 휴머니즘’에 머물게 되는 도덕적, 윤리적 문제를 낳게 된다. 복음이 내포하고 있는 사회적 책임에 대하여 균형잡힌 이해는 복음에 충실한 삶 즉 말로 복음을 전하는 것 이상의 전인적이고 총체적인 그리스도인 삶의 모습을 갖도록 이끌어 준다. 이러한 논의를 위해 먼저 하나님 나라 복음의 통전적 의미를 살피고, 신앙의 공적인 의미를 확인하고 나서 통전적 선교에 대한 재림교회의 관점을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to break the stereotype that recognizes the church’s social activities as a missionary tool, and to reconfirm the ‘social responsibility of the church’ by a holistic dimension based on the gospel of the kingdom of God. If we view social activities as just a tool for evangelism, these will lead to moral and ethical problems that stay in pretentious good deeds. However, if we have a balanced understanding of the social responsibility that the gospel implies, it leads us to live a life faithful to the gospel, that is, a holistic Christian life that goes beyond preaching the gospel with words. To lead this discussion, I first examine the holistic meaning of the gospel of the kingdom, confirm the public meaning of faith, and then present the Adventist church’s perspective on holistic mission.
