영구임대아파트에서 자녀를 양육한 부모의 거주경험

A Qualitative Study on the Living Experience of Parents Raising Children in Permanent Rental Apartments

본 연구의 목적은 영구임대아파트에서 자녀를 양육한 부모를 대상으로 거주환경에 대한 경험과 인식을 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 전국 영구임대아파트 인근에 소재한 4개의 지역사회복지관을 접촉하여 영구임대아파트에 거주하고 있는 부모를 대상으로 집단을 구성한 후 초점집단인터뷰를 실시하였고, 부분적으로 포토보이스를 활용하였다. 연구 참여 동의 후 수집된 사진과 녹취 자료는 주제분석 방법(thematic analysis)을 적용하여 분석하였다. 주제분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 부모들은 아동을 키우기에 적합한 곳이 아니라는 것을 알면서도 이 곳을 거주지로 선택할 수밖에 없었던 ‘선택의 무게를 짊어지며’, 비정상적인 일상과 폭력이라는 ‘위험과 고전분투’하면서 하루하루를 살아가고 있었다. 그러나 부모들은 이 곳에서 사는 동안에는 좀 더 좋은 환경이 되기를 바라면서 ‘좀 더 나은 길’을 다양한 방식으로 궁리하고 모색하고 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 영구임대아파트를 포함한 빈곤지역에서 성장하고 있는 아동의 좀 더 좋은 거주환경을 위해 필요한 실천적 함의와 제언을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences and perceptions regarding the living environment of parents who are raising their children in permanent rental apartments. To do this, we first contacted four community welfare centers in the vicinity of permanent rental apartments nationwide to select targets for the interview. Then we conducted a focus group interview, partly using the photovoice method. Collected photos and the information from the interviews were analyzed with thematic analysis method. The results of the analysis are as follows. Even though the interviewed parents knew that permanent rental apartments are not adequate for raising their children, because they had no other choice they had to live with ‘weight of choice’. Their everyday was a continuous ‘struggle with the abnormality and the risk of violence’. They wished their living environments will get better as long as they live there, and at the same time were ‘seeking various ways for better tomorrow’. Based on these results, we suggested practical implications to improve the living environment of the children living in poverty areas including the permanent rental apartments.
