빈곤한 여자 대학생들의 사회적 배제와 포함 경험

Poor Female College Students’ Experiences of Social Exclusion and Inclusion: The Rainbow of Crossing and Fit

현대사회에서 빈곤은 경제적 어려움을 비롯해 관계상의 고립, 사회적 편견, 기회의 박탈 등 다차원적 배제와 밀접히 관련된다. 이것의 해결을 위해서는 적절한 물질적 지원도 중요하겠으나, 빈곤을 경험한 개인들이 사회공동체 안에서 각자의 의지를 실천하며 존중받을 수 있도록 사회적 포함에 귀 기울이는 작업도 필요하다. 따라서, 본 연구목적은 빈곤한 여자 대학생들이 경험한 사회적 배제와 포함의 맥락과 의미를 심도 있게 이해하는 것으로 수립하였다. 연구질문에 대한 해답을 구하기 위해 빈곤층 여자 대학생 7명과 심층 면담을 수행하여 자료를 수집하였고, 이를 질적 사례연구 방법으로 분석하였다. 사례 내 분석에서는 사회적 배제와 포함에 관한 각 연구참여자의 개별적 경험과 맥락을 이해하였다. 사례 간 분석에서는 연구참여자들의 공통적 경험을 밝히는 총 27개의 하위구성요소를 발견하였다. 이를 다시 구조화한 결과 총 8개의 상위구성요소가 드러났으며, 이때 각각의 범주는 ‘선 밖의 서성거림’, ‘불안이라는 불청객’, ‘텅 빔을 채우는 단출함’, ‘꿈과 현실의 엇박자’와 같은 사회적 배제 경험, ‘내가 먼저 맞추기’, ‘대학에서의 반올림’, ‘가난을 감싸는 나눔’, ‘소통으로 더하는 소중함’이라는 사회적 포함 경험으로 또 한 번 분류되었다. 최종적으로, ‘엇갈림과 어울림의 무지개’라는 중심주제처럼, 연구참여자들의 경험에서는 소수자로 구별되며 중심성과 극명히 엇갈리는 사회적 배제의 의미, 그리고 참여와 관계 맺기로 주변화된 현실이 중심성과 겹쳐지면서 사회적 포함 경험의 의미가 드러났다. 끝으로, 빈곤한 여자 대학생들의 사회복지 증진을 위해 제언하였다.

Poverty in modern society is closely related to multidimensional exclusion, such as relational isolation, social prejudice, and the deprivation of opportunity as well as the economic difficulties. To resolve this, appropriate material support is important, and it is also necessary to pay attention to social inclusion so that individuals who experienced poverty can practice their own will in social communities and be respected. Thus, this study aims to understand the context and meaning of the social exclusion and inclusion experienced by poor female college students in depth. To find answers to research questions, in-depth interviews were conducted with 7 female college students from underprivileged class to collect data, which were analyzed by a qualitative case study method. In an in-case analysis, each research participant’s individual experience and context were understood, concerning social exclusion and inclusion. In a cross-case analysis, 27 sub-components were found in total, which would reveal the research participants’ common experience. As a result of restructuring them, a total of eight parent components were discovered, and at this time, each category was classified once again, into the experience of social exclusion, such as ‘Hovering outside the line’, ‘An intruder named anxiety’, ‘Simplicity filling emptiness’, and ‘Staggered beating between dream and reality’ and the experience of social inclusion, such as ‘Adapting oneself first’, ‘Rounding off at college’, ‘Sharing embracing poverty’, and ‘Preciousness added by communication.’ Lastly, in the research participants’ experience, it was found out that there was the meaning of social exclusion, obviously crossing centrality, distinguished as a minority and the meaning of social inclusion as the marginalized reality overlaps the centrality through participation and making relationships, like the central topic ‘The rainbow of crossing and fit.’ Finally, suggestions were made for the promotion of impoverished female college students’ social welfare.
