Beautiful Encounter with Myself

본 연구는 여성안면화상장애인의 삶을 이해하고 이들이 생각하고 경험하는 아름다움을 이해하고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 실현하기 위하여 여성안면화상장애인 5명을 대상으로 심층면접을 진행하였으며 현상학적 연구 방법으로 분석하였다. 연구참여자의 진술을 바탕으로 ‘매일 깨닫는 나의 흉터’, ‘평범함마저 꿈꿔야 하는 내 얼굴’, ‘혼자 그리고 함께 버텨내기’, ‘아름답게 나를 가꾸기’, ‘아름다운 나와 만나다’ 총 다섯 가지로 범주화할 수 있었으며, 범주를 통합하여 ‘흉터 위에 피어나는 아름다움’이라는 중심의미를 도출하였다. 본 연구는 여성화상장애인들의 삶을 올바르게 이해하며, 사회복지 및 보건의료 현장에서 관련 전문가들이 필요한 서비스를 적절하게 제공하는 데 유용한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.

The purpose of this study is to illustrate the life of women with facial disabilities caused by burns and examine how they reflect the meaning of beauty. This study follows the phenomenological research method of Giorgi. The interviews were conducted targeting five adult women suffering from the disability with facial burns from October to December 2018. The study findings include total five main themes, I perceive my scars every day , ‘Can not live an ordinary life because of my face’, ‘Withstand alone and together’, ‘Cultivate my beauty’, ‘Encounter beautiful myself’. By integrating five themes, the key meaning of beauty that blooms on scars has been derived. It is expected that this study can be used as a basic information to correctly understand the lives of women suffering from the disability with facial burns and to provide appropriate services by the experts in social welfare and health care.
