지역사회에서의 정신장애인 동료지원서비스에 대한 질적 사례연구

Qualitative Case Study on the Peer Support Services for People with Psychiatric Disabilities in the Community

정신건강영역에서 회복패러다임이 확산되면서 이를 촉진하는 핵심적인 요인으로서 동료지원이 강조되고 있다. 한국에서도 정신장애인 동료지원이 10여년의 역사를 가지고 있지만 아직까지 이에 대한 연구는 미비하다. 본 연구는 동료지원서비스에 대한 사례분석을 통해 서비스의 효과와 동료지원가의 역할을 이해하고자 하는 목적을 가진다. 이를 위해 일개 정신재활시설의 동료지원서비스 이용자 5명을 사례로 선정하고, 이용자 및 관련 참여자에 대한 인터뷰, 문서 자료를 통해 자료를 수집하고, 사례 내 분석 및 사례 간 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 동료지원서비스의 효과는 공감적이고 지지적인 관계 경험, 원하고 필요로 하는 것을 해결, 고립으로의 탈피, 할 수 있다는 자신감, 스스로의 삶의 동력으로, 동료지원가의 역할은 공통의 경험을 통한 관계 맺기, 일상의 삶을 공유, 경험적 지식을 통한 실제적인 지원, 가능성에 대한 촉진으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 동료지원서비스의 제도화에 대한 함의를 제시하였다.

With the spread of the recovery paradigm in the field of mental health, peer support has been emphasized as a key factor in promoting the recovery. In Korea, although there is a decade long history of peer support for people with psychiatric disabilities, there are still limited studies on the topic. The purpose of this study was to understand the effectiveness of the peer support service and the roles of the peer support workers through a case analysis. Five peer support service users were selected from a mental rehabilitation facility for case analysis, and there were within-case and between-cases analyses through interviews and review of documents. The findings of this study revealed that the effectiveness of peer support services includes experiencing empathetic and supportive relationships, satisfying individual desires, promoting self-confidence, overcoming isolation, and voluntary challenges. In addition, the roles of the peer support workers were identified as building rapport through shared experiences, sharing daily lives, providing practical support through empirical knowledge, and promoting possibilities. Based on the results, the study provided implications for institutionalization of peer support services.
