본 연구는 비행의 경험으로 학업중단에 이른 청소년들이 학업유예를 철회하고 위탁형 대안학교에 온후 어떠한 경험들을 하는가에 대한 심층적 이해를 구하고자 하며, 이에 문화기술적 연구방법을 활용하였다. 이를 위해 연구자는 총 5명의 위탁형 대안학교에 다니고 있는 학업중단 청소년과 심층면접을 진행하였으며, 1년간의 기간 동안 참여관찰을 하였다. 참여관찰에서 수집된 정보와 심층면접을 통해 수집된 자료들을 기반으로 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 학업중단 청소년들의 위탁형 대안학교에서의 경험들은 또래들만의 폐쇄적이고 단절적인 ‘관계맺기’에 서 벗어나 다양한 ‘관계맺기’를 시도해 가는 과정이며, 이 과정에서 여러 가지 어려움들을 겪지만 그 속에서 더욱 단단해져가는 나 자신을 발견하고, 내면에 희망을 품는 과정이라고 하겠다. 결국 학업중단 청소년들의 대안학교에서의 경험은 교사 - 또래라고 하는 다양한 관계들의 ‘관계맺기’의 진정성 획득과 이를 통한 ‘미래에의 꿈 가꿔나가기’라고 해석할 수 있다.
The purpose of this study is to understand experiences of drop-out adolescents in an alternative school entrusted and meaning of those experiences. This study used ethnography research method. To conduct this study, this researcher went through in-depth interviews with five participants and also did participant observation for a year. The following is the analysis result based on information collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews. Experiences that those adolescents go through at the alternative school entrusted have following cultural meaning. The first thing they experience at the alternative school entrusted is an effort to make various relationship with teachers, peers rather than to make relationship that is fragmented and severance only with their peers in a world of excitement-hanging out together. Adolescents gradually realize that school is truly on their side and recover sincerity of making relationship between school and themselves. Although their life is unstable like a glass that can be easily broken, it appears that they are starting to internalize values and rules that they should abide by as student. The final cultural meaning that this study found was completion of making relationship - the seed named hope and priming water. In conclusion, experiences that drop-out adolescents have at the alternative school entrusted are a process that they try out making various relationship rather than closed and severance making relationship only with their peers and experiences various difficulties. However, they find themselves becoming stronger and having a hope inside of their mind. After all, experiences that drop-out adolescents have at the alternative school entrusted can be understood as growing a dream of future through accepting sincerity of making various relationship with teachers, parents, and peers. The result of this study is as follows. First, this study used ethnography research method which is not usually used in social welfare studies. As a result of using this method, this study could understand adolescents experiences in the alternative school entrusted through their own voice and resulted in finding out various values and cultural meanings that cannot be found in quantitative research. Second, this study became a touchstone in discussing to where alternative school entrusted should be headed in the future by looking into what activities alternative school entrusted did until now.
