본 연구는 백희나 작가가 직접 글을 쓰고 그림을 그린 창작 그림책 10권을 선정하여 음식의 종류와 그 특징을 중심으로 음식이 지니는 의미를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 그림책 본문과 파라텍스트 속 글과 그림에 나타나는 음식과 관련된 장면을 선정하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과 첫째;그림책 속 음식은 독특한 재료로 만들어진 일상의 음식으로 신비한 힘을 지니고 있으며;둘째;음식은 사회적 배경을 반영하고;인물의 성격을 드러내는 인물화 장치로 사용되었다. 셋째;음식은 타인과 소통하는 매개체가 되어 서로의 관계를 돈독하게 만들었으며;넷째;정성이 담긴 음식은 마음의 위안을 주고 치유의 기능을 한다. 연구 결과를 통해 그림책 속 음식은 현실과 환상을 잇는 매개물로 이야기 속에 빠져들게 하며;독자의 호기심을 자극하여 책 속의 재미를 더해준다. 그리고 현대 사회의 생활상을 담고 있는 음식을 통해 인간과 상호작용을 맺는 다양한 생태계 체계를 엿볼 수 있다.
This study aims to examine the meaning of food;focusing on 10 picture books written and painted by Baek Hee-na. Scenes related to food appearing in words and pictures in their main texts and paratexts were selected and analyzed. The results of this study are as follows. First;the food depicted in the picture books consists of unique ingredients and has a mysterious power. Second;food was used as a character device reflecting the social background and revealing the character’s personality. Third;food became a medium to communicate and had a strong relationship with others. Fourth;sincere food has comforting and healing effects. The results of this study suggest that the food in picture books draws us toward the story as a medium connecting reality and fantasy. Food stimulates the curiosity of the reader and adds enjoyment to the book. Food;which holds the life of modern society;provides an opportunity to glimpse at the various ecosystems interacting with humans.
