‘예술’로서 유아교육과정의 의미와 가능성 탐색

Exploring the meaning and possibility of early childhood curriculum as art using Eisner’s curriculum model

본 연구는 아이즈너의 예술적 교육과정 모형의 주요개념을 유아교육의 관점에서 그 함의를 살펴보고, 예술로서의 유아교육과정의 의미와 가능성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 표현적 결과, 교육적 감식안과 비평, 우연한 조우로서의 교육적 경험에 대한 포괄적 이해를 이끈 아이즈너의 예술적 교육과정 모형을 살펴보고, 유아교육의 관점에서 그 의미를 재구성하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, ‘표현적 결과를 유아교육과정 안에 끌어들이기’와 ‘교육적 감식안과 상상력을 갖춘 유아교사 되기’를 제안하였다. 이처럼 예술의 속성에 비추어 교육과정을 바라본 아이즈너의 모형은 단순히 교육목표 설정방식이나 수업방법에서의 기술적 변화가 아니라, 교육활동구성 및 평가, 교사의 역할 등 수업의 본질이나 교육과정 전반에 걸친 새로운 이해의 가능성을 시사한다. 무엇보다 놀이중심, 흥미중심의 활동이 주요원리로 포함되어 있고, 이미 계획화된 수업 계획안만을 고수하기 보다는 유아의 흥미중심에 근거한 융통성 있는 교육과정 운영을 강조하는 유아교육과정의 특성에 비추어 볼 때, 아이즈너의 예술적 교육과정 모형은 놀이중심 유아교육과정과 포스트모던 유아교육과정의 대안적 담론으로의 가능성이 분명하다 할 것이다.

This study aims to explore the implications of Eisner s artistic curriculum model currently leading discussions on the artistic value of teaching and investigate its possibility as an alternative discourse for postmodern early childhood curriculum. Discussions on teaching as art originated from the criticism of the modern scientist view of teaching as a science. It is being developed actively in the trend of reconceptualization of the curriculum, with the emergence of postmodern discourse and constructionism as background. Eisner proposed a new curriculum model that views teaching on the basis of the attributes of art by criticizing Tyler s scientific curriculum model. The research results are as follows: First, the educational goals are not set in advance but revealed upon completion of teaching. In this way, Eisner criticizes the scientific curriculum model as a unilinear goal-means model, proposing instead a circular model based on the characteristics of artistic creativity. In addition, he proposes educational evaluation in a new assessment format that reflects the qualitative characteristics of educational experiences. Accordingly, Eisner s artistic model implies the possibility of a new understanding of the essence of teaching and assessment of educational activities, as well as of the role of teacher. Moreover, Eisner s artistic curriculum model appears to be a viable alternative discourse on the postmodern early childhood curriculum, based on play-centered and interest-centered activities.
