본 연구는 녹색식물을 매개로 한 원예활동이 학령전기 유아의 정서지능, 또래 유능감 및 자기존중감에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 서울특별시 송파구에 소재한 M유치원과 C유치원 만 5세 유아 24명 중, 실험집단 12명에게 매주 50분씩, 주1회에 걸쳐 원예활동을 진행하였다. 프로그램은 2016년 9월 8일부터 12월 15일까지 총15회기 진행되었으며, 수집된 자료는 SPSS (Version 22 for Windows; IBM, Armonk, NY) 통계 프로그램을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과는 실험집단이 비교집단보다 정서 지능의 하위요인인 자기정서이용과 타인 정서인식 및 배려에서 통계적으로 유의한 결과가 나타났으며, 또래 유능감의 하위요인인 사교성과 주도성이 유의미하게 향상되었다. 또한, 자기존중감과 하위 요인인 유능감, 소속감, 가치감이 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 학령전기 유아의 원예활동이 정서지능, 또래 유능감 및 자기존중감 향상에 긍정적 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 시사한다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of green plant- mediated horticultural activity on emotional intelligence, peer competence, and self-esteem of preschool children. For this purpose, twenty-four young children aged 5 were selected at M kindergarten and C kindergarten Songpa-gu in Seoul. Horticultural activities were carried out once a week for 12 five-year-old children were in the experimental group for 50 minutes each week. The program was held from September 8, 2016 to December 15, 2016, for a total of 15 sessions. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS (Version 22 for Windows; IBM, Armonk, NY) statistical program. The statistical results of the study showed that the experimental group had higher score than the control group in self-emotion use and other emotional perception and consideration. Sociability and initiative as sub-factors of peer competence were significantly improved in the experimental group relative to the control group. Additionally, self-esteem and sub-factors, of competence, belonging, and sense of value were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. These results suggest that participation in horticultural activities of preschool children may have positive effects on emotional intelligence, peer competence, and self-esteem.
