숲 유치원에 참여한 자원봉사자 이야기

Stories of volunteers as forest kindergarten participants

본 연구는 숲 유치원에 대한 자원봉사자의 인식을 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 연구참여자로 숲 유치원에서 자원봉사자 5명을 선정, 반 구조화된 면담을 통해 숲 유치원에 대한 인식을 알아보았다. 자원봉사자들이 인식한 숲 유치원에 대한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자원봉사자들은 숲 유치원을 통한 숲 경험이 자신들을 비롯하여 아이들과 교사 모두를 긍정적인 변화로 이끌어 주는 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 둘째, 자원봉사자들은 숲 유치원에서의 참여를 통해 자연과 인간의 소통, 생명성, 치유력 등과 같은 숲이 지닌 가치를 재발견하게 된다는 인식을 지니고 있었다. 셋째, 자원봉사자들은 숲 활동 준비과정의 부담, 제반시설 부족, 자연과의 조화 부족, 적극성과 세심함 부족 등의 어려움과 문제점이 숲 유치원에서 보인다고 인식하고 있었다. 넷째, 자원봉사자들은 대상 숲의 다양화, 실천 중심의 숲 활동, 숲 프로그램 및 매뉴얼의 구체화 등으로 숲 유치원의 활성화가 필요하다는 인식을 나타내었다. 이상과 같은 연구결과를 바탕으로 숲 유치원 설립의 필요성, 숲 유치원의 개선 방향, 숲반 활동에서의 문제점을 해소하기 위한 방안 등에 대해 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study was to examine volunteers perceptions of forest kindergartens. For this purpose, the researchers conducted semi-structured interviews with five people who volunteered at forest kindergartens. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the volunteers said that not only they, but also the children and their teachers positively changed through the forest experiences provided by the forest kindergarten. Second, they responded that participation in the forest kindergarten led them to rediscover the benefits of forests such as increased communication between man and nature, renewed vitality and enhanced healing powers. Third, the volunteers perceived that some obstacles to a better operation of the forest kindergarten includes burden in relation to forest activity preparation, lack of relevant facilities, poor reconciliation with nature and teachers lack of positivity and carefulness. Fourth, the subjects reported that increased number of forests to be visited, practice-oriented forest activities and well-organized forest programs and manuals would be needed in order to increase the effectiveness of forest kindergartens. Finally, based on these findings, this study discussed the need to establish forest kindergartens, ways to improve them, and methods with which to solve problems with forest activities.
