공립병설유치원 교육공동체 구성원들의 숲유치원설립․운영에 대한 인식변화 및 협력체제에 관한 연구

A community’s recognition of changes needed to achieve a more cooperative system: concerning the implementation and management of forest-kindergartens in public elementary schools

본 연구는 공립병설유치원에서 숲유치원을 설립 운영하는 과정에서 나타난 교육공동체 구성원들의 교육 전반에 대한 인식 변화와 협력체제에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 본 연구는 강원도 횡성군 농촌 마을에 위치한 S초등학교 병설유치원 한 학급의 담임교사가 만 3-5세 원아 8명과 함께 2012년 1학기 동안의 숲유치원 설립 준비 과정을 거쳐 북부지방산림청 관할의 ‘큰숲’과 유치원 근처 마을숲을 아이들이 활용할 수 있도록 학부모들이 만들어준 ‘작은숲’에서 2012년 3월부터 2013년 2월까지 숲유치원 활동을 한 결과이다. 병설유치원 담임교사인 본 연구자는 그 과정 전체를 문화해설적으로 연구하였으며 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교육공동체 구성원들의 숲유치원 설립 운영 전반에 대한 인식 변화 측면의 경우, 유치원 교원들은 담임교사의 신념을 믿고 운영한 교육공동체 구성원들과 유아들의 변화를 통해 보람과 행복감을 느꼈으며, 초등교원들은 유치원의 꾸준한 활동을 보며 숲 관련 교육에 관심이 더욱 높아졌다. 또한 학부모들은 아이들의 몸과 마음의 건강, 생기와 활기 넘친 생활, 또래관계와 창의적 표현력 등의 긍정적 변화에 매우 만족하였으며, 교육청 관계자들은 부모들의 적극적 참여와 협력으로 이루어진 숲유치원 교육을 통해 농촌지역 병설유치원의 숲생태교육 효과와 원아 모집의 성공 사례에 깊은 감동을 받은 것으로 밝혀졌다. 둘째, 숲유치원 설립 운영에서의 구성원들간의 협력체제 구축을 통해, 유치원 교원들은 사명감을 가지고 숲유치원 발전을 도모하고, 초등교원들은 숲유치원과 연계된 다양한 활동에 관심이 높아졌다. 학부모들은 지속적인 지원을 위한 숲유치원 자문위원단을 결성하였다. 공립형 숲유치원 설립 운영에 관한 본 연구는 지역의 홍보체계와 교육청의 지원으로 누리과정과 연계한 일반화 가능성을 보게 됨으로써 공립형 숲유치원의 새로운 모형과 활성화에 많은 가능성과 시사점을 주고 있다.

This study examines an education community s decision to make changes to the management of its forest-kindergarten program; specifically, it discusses the modifications required to nurture a more cooperative system. To achieve this, two forests were selected: a large forest operated by the Korean Forest Service and a small forest operated by Suback Elementary School and funded by the community. The process was approached from a cultural interpretational background. The results revealed that, first, the school’s kindergarten teachers were happy with the children’s changes and that the educational community trusted their beliefs. By training members of the community, teachers developed greater interest in forest-related education and continuously searched for new activities. In parallel, parents were satisfied that the children appreciated their education and that it was a cooperative endeavor. The county department of education acknowledged that the forest-kindergarten was a success, largely due to assistance from parents and the community.
