자연에서 나타나는 유아들의 긍정적 정서에 관한 연구

Study on Children s Positive Emotions in the Nature

본 연구는 어린이집 유아들이 자연으로 나들이하는 과정에서 나타나는 긍정적 정서와 이러한 긍정적 정서를 유발하는 자연의 특징을 탐구하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 2011년 6월 22일부터 11월 3일까지 16주간 공동육아 ‘깨끔발 어린이집’ 만 3-5세 유아 18명의 청명산 나들이를 관찰하였다. 유아들이 자연에서 보이는 긍정적 정서와 이러한 정서가 나타나는 자연의 특징은 다음과 같다. 유아들은 직접 경험의 기회를 제공하는 자연에서 새로운 경험에 대한 ‘흥미’를 보였고, 우연한 만남의 장을 주는 자연에서는 탐색의 ‘호기심’을, 순간에 머무르지 않고 계속적으로 변화하는 자연에서는 자신들이 기대하는 순간을 자발적으로 기다리는 ‘끈기’를 보였다. 함께하는 경험이 가능한 자연에서는 함께하는 ‘기쁨’이 있었고, 무궁무진한 상상이 가능한 미지의 특징을 보이는 자연에서는 상상의 ‘즐거움’이 있었고, 자연의 상생을 직접 경험해보면서 공존과 배려의 ‘이타성’을 보였고, 다양성이 있는 자연에서 아름다움에 대한 인식의 ‘심미안’을 보였다. 도전과 성취를 자극하는 자연에서 성취를 통한 ‘자긍심’이 나타났으며, 생성, 성장, 소멸의 과정 또는 계절의 변화가 순환적으로 변화하는 자연에서는 변화에 대한 ‘기대’를 하였다. 결론적으로 자연이 지니는 다양한 특징, 자연의 다양성 자체가 유아들에게 다양한 긍정적 정서를 유발하고 있었고, 유아들의 자연에 대한 긍정적 정서는 다시 자연의 다양성을 찾도록 하는 경험으로 순환적으로 연결되고 있음을 볼 수 있었다. 또한 유아들은 자연이라는 공간에서 긍정적 정서를 통해 서로 관계를 형성하고 유지함을 알 수 있었다. 즉, 긍정적 정서는 자연에서 유아들이 관계를 맺는 중요한 요인임을 알 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study was to inquire into types of positive emotion among children in nature, specifically situations that cause positive emotions and their meanings. In pursuing this aim, the researcher was able to observe positive emotions caused by experiences in nature, determine situations that caused positive emotions, and seek the meaning of positive emotions in the process. Positive emotions and situations that caused them in nature are as follows. First, an “interest” to a new experience in nature appeared, providing opportunities for direct experience. Second, searching “curiosity” about nature appeared, so that the children had accidental encounters. Third, the children showed “persistence,” waiting expectantly for natural objects-changing moments in nature, which always varies. Fourth, “joy” in nature appeared, where it was possible to pool experiences that children, in conjunction with other children, solved the problem. Fifth, “amusement” appeared in nature that was still unknown, where children could imagine infinitely. Sixth, children felt “altruism of coexistence and consideration through experiencing coexistence personally and watching a process of coexistence within nature. Seventh, “appreciation of beauty and excellence” in nature appeared, where there was diversity. Children felt it through one specific natural object or harmony and balance between natural objects. Eighth, “pride” through achievement appeared in nature, which aroused challenges and achievement. Ninth, “anticipation” about changing of fluxional nature appeared. In conclusion, that nature has many characteristics, diversity of nature, prompted children’s positive emotions and their positive emotions toward nature rotationally made them find diversity of nature again. Children also could establish and maintain relations through positive emotions in nature. In other words, it was found that positive emotions are important factors that children build a relationship in nature.
