창작 그림책 ‘지원이와 병관이’ 시리즈에 나타난 현대 아동의 식문화(食文化)

A Study of the Food Culture of Modern Children in The Picturebook Series of ‘Ji-Won and Byung-Gwan’

본 연구는 현대 아동들의 생활 전반을 그려내고 있는 사실주의 그림책 ‘지원이와 병관이’ 시리즈에 나타난 아동들의 식문화를 분석함으로써, 현대 아이들의 식문화를 보다 면밀히 이해하고, 이를 바탕으로 적절한 지도 방향을 설정하는데 도움을 얻고자 하였다. 이를 위해 ‘지원이와 병관이’ 시리즈에 해당하는 그림책 7권을 선정하여 내용을 분석한 결과, 이들 그림책에 나타난 현대 아동들의 식문화는 첫째, 넘쳐나는 먹을거리: 음식의 소중함과 감사함을 모르는 아이들, 둘째, 외식과 가공식의 일반화: 소비에 익숙해진 아이들, 셋째, 먹고 일어나기: 식사 준비 및 정리 과정에 참여하지 않는 아이들, 넷째, 건강과 미(美)의 사이: 먹기를 거부하는 아이들로 나타났다. 이를 통해 현대 아동의 식문화는 서구화 및 산업화되고 있으며, 이에 식문화 전반에 대한 거시적인 관점의 지도가 필요하고, 가정과 학교에서 성인들의 역할이 중요함을 논의하였다.

This study analyzed the picturebook series of ‘Ji-Won and Byung-Gwan’ that describe the food culture of modern children. This study employed a research methodology that analyzed the content of seven picturebooks. The findings of this study revealed that: first, modern children do not recognize the value of food or have an appreciation for food; second, modern children are accustomed to consumption; third, modern children do not prepare meals or clean up after meals; and fourth, modern children refuse to eat. Based on these results, the study noted that the picturebook series of ‘Ji-Won and Byung-Gwan’ deals with the westernization and industrialization of food culture for modern children. These results reveal that it is necessary to use macro perspectives to guide children, and reinforce the idea that adults play very important roles in the food culture of modern children.
