박물관 교육프로그램 분석을 통한 유아 다문화교육의 방향 모색

Implications of Museum Programs Analysis for Early Multi-cultural Education

본 연구는 국내 공공박물관에서 실시하고 있는 다문화교육프로그램 분석을 통해 유아다문화교육의 장으로서 박물관 활용 가능성과 그 방향을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 우리 사회의 ‘다문화주의’와 박물관 교육의 의의를 고찰하고, 박물관의 다문화교육프로그램의 목표와 내용, 교육대상, 운영방식 등을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 대부분의 다문화교육프로그램의 목표는 포괄적인 의미에서 ‘소통과 이해’에 두고 있으며, 전시 관람과 체험활동을 통한 우리 문화의 이해와 다른 문화와의 비교 및 공유가 주요 내용으로 다루어지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 분석을 통해 향후에는 다문화 가족 2세뿐 아니라 일반 유아들에게 문화의 다양성과 평등성을 실제 생활 속에서 체험할 수 있도록 다문화교육프로그램을 매개로 박물관을 적극 활용해야 함을 시사 받을 수 있었다.

In this paper, the authors sought to provide a new perspective on multicultural education for young children in Korean museums. They first examined some main themes of multicultural educational programs in Korean museums and discussed the possibility of a museum as a space for multicultural education. Multiculturalism in Korea is different from that in Western societies, where multiculturalism formed gradually over many centuries through migration, exile, and colonization. Indeed, multiculturalism in Korea is caused by the rise in international marriages and the cultural alienation of mixed-race children. It is certainly possible that museum-led multicultural educational programs could make it easier for children to accept people of different races and cultures. The 9 national museums currently carry out some multicultural education programs. It can be said that the agenda of these programs is communication and comprehension as most of them focus on understanding both foreign cultures traditional Korean culture. The exhibitions and various cultural programs stress equality and celebrate cultural differences. As a result, the infrastructures and previous cases for multicultural educational programs are comparatively well equipped. Furthermore, the effectiveness of multicultural education for young children has been suggested in many previous studies.
