자연친화적 놀이를 선호하는 영유아기 부모들의 이야기

A narrative study on early childhood parents who prefer eco-friendly play

본 연구는 자연친화적 놀이를 선호하는 영유아기 부모들이 자연친화적 놀이를 왜 선호하게 되었고 그러한 선호를 통한 경험이 어떤 의미가 있는지를 밝히고자 시작하였다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 연구참여자들의 경험을 이해하기에 적합한 내러티브 탐구로 진행되었다. 본 연구에는 총 네 명의 영유아기 부모들이 참여하였으며 2021년 1월부터 5월까지 면담을 진행하여 자료를 수집 및 분석하였다. 연구참여자들은 각자의 삶을 반추하면서 각자만의 자연친화적 놀이 선호 이유와 경험을 이야기했으며, 이 과정에서 드러난 경험의 의미는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모의 유년기 자연과의 추억은 자녀를 자연으로 데리고 나가는 원동력이 되었다. 둘째, 자녀와의 자연친화적 놀이경험은 유아와 자연을 다시 보는 계기가 되었다. 셋째, 자연과 인간에 대한 고민은 부모로 성장하는 힘이 되었다. 넷째, 생태적 삶의 체화는 ‘지금 여기’로서의 삶에 대한 가치 발견으로 이어졌다. 이러한 그들의 이야기를 통해 유아기 자녀와 함께 하는 자연친화적 놀이의 가치를 살펴보고, 자연친화적 놀이와 생태적 삶이 부모로서의 성장에도 도움이 됨을 밝혔다는 점에서 본 연구의 의의를 찾을 수 있었다.

This study aims to discover why some early childhood parents prefer eco-friendly play and investigate the meaning of the resulting experiences and their implications for early childhood education. Therefore, a narrative inquiry, suitable for understanding research participants’ experiences, was performed by interviewing four parents from January to May 2021 to collect data. Each participant s narrative was described based on the research content to reveal their unique experience, which was then analyzed comprehensively. According to the interviews, the participants preferences for eco-friendly play can be summarized as follows: First, they have exposed their children to the nature based on their childhood memories. Second, they have grown to regard children and nature as complete subjects of play. Third, while contemplating nature and humans, they experienced personal growth. Fourth, they began to think of their children as “living here and now” by living a natural life. This study revealed the meaning of life in depth and the difficulties and personal growth of parents who prefer eco-friendly play by observing the opinions. This study is significant, as it presents directions for early childhood education in today’s society, where nature is gradually disappearing. It is expected to provide an opportunity to consider the roles of parents and teachers in the lives of children who will live in future societies where ecological values will be essential.
