Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors from participant characteristics, workplace bullying, and professional self-concept that influenced nurses experience of near misses in small and medium sized hospitals. Methods: A secondary data analysis was performed. From the data of 280 nurses who had participated in the initial study by answering structured self-report questionnaires between December 2016 to January 2017, the data of 161 nurses who met the inclusion criteria for this study were extracted and analyzed using independent t-test, Chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis. Results: Mean age of the participants of the present study was 30.95 (SD=6.36), and a majority were women (92.5%). The results of this study showed that their experience of near misses was statistically significantly related to current ward career, poor quality of patient care (a subarea of workplace bullying), and communication (a subarea of professional self-concept). Several factors influencing nurses experience of near misses in small and medium-sized hospitals were identified. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, efforts to improve hospital policies and administrative support should be made to create a safer working environment for nurses and as well as patients.
