‘연속성’ 개념으로 살펴본 조선후기 아버지의 육아 탐색

Exploring father s child-rearing in the Late Chosun Dynasty through the concept of continuity

연구목적: 본 연구는 조선후기 아버지가 자녀와 관련하여 쓴 작품을 통해 ‘연속성’ 개념을 중심으로 조선후기 아버지의 육아를 살펴보고, 오늘날 아버지 육아에 대한 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. 연구방법: 자녀와 관련된 작품을 남긴 조선후기 아버지 가운데에서 영․유아기 자녀의 탄생 및 육아 과정을 엿볼 수 있는 5명의 작품 총 51제를 선정하였다. 이를 맥락적으로 살펴보기 위해 조선후기 아버지의 생애와 그들의 살았던 당대의 사상 및 문화 등을 참고하여 분석하였다. 연구결과: 조선후기 아버지 5인의 작품을 분석할 결과, 잉태 전부터 자라가는 과정을 따라 지속되는 시간의 ‘연속성’, 가까이 있든 멀리 있든 한 기운으로 이어지는 공간의 ‘연속성’, 주변 인물(人物)과 교류하며 소통하는 관계의 ‘연속성’에 충실한 육아를 볼 수 있었다. 논의 및 결론: 시간의 연속성에서 아버지 육아는 한 개인의 생애를 넘어서 인류 전체를 관통하는 잠재된 본성이며, 공간의 연속성에서 아버지 육아는 시공을 초월하는 행위로 이해되어야 하며, 관계의 연속성에서 아버지 육아에서 세상과 사람을 바라보는 아버지의 자세가 중요함을 논하였다. 이를 통해 오늘날 아버지들이 ‘연속성’에 충실한 육아의 본질을 새롭게 조명하고, 주변의 사람들 및 자연과 더불어 자녀양육을 지속적으로 실천해 나갈 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

Purpose: This study aimed to provide implications for fathers today by analyzing father s child-rearing with a focus on the concept of continuity through the works of fathers in the Late Chosun Dynasty. Method: For this purpose, among the fathers of the Late Chosun Dynasty, a total of 51 works were selected by five fathers in which the process of raising their children was recorded. The works were analyzed contextually by referring to the life of fathers in Late Chosun Dynasty and the ideas and culture of the time they lived. Results: Father s child-rearing in the Late Chosun Dynasty was a continuity of time that continued from before conception to growing up. And it was the continuity of space that was connected as one whether it was near or far away. In addition, it was the child-rearing that was faithful to the continuity of the relationship of interacting and communicating with the surrounding people. Conclusion: In the concept of continuity of time, parenting can be seen as a latent nature that goes beyond an individual s life and penetrates the entire human race. Also in the concept of continuity of space, father-rearing should be understood as an act that transcends time and space. And in the concept of continuity of relationship, it was suggested that father s attitude toward the world and people is important in child-rearing. This study expects today s fathers to pay new attention to the essence of child-rearing faithful to continuity and practice raising children together with people and nature around them.
