고등학생 청각장애 자녀를 둔 두 어머니의 삶 이야기

Life Stories of the Two Mothers of a High-School-Child with a Hearing Impairment

The purpose of this study is to understand the lives of two mothers each having a high-school-child with a hearing impairment and to narrate their experiences from the perspective of life-span development. As a research method, in-depth interviews for the mothers were conducted and data were analyzed according to a qualitative analysis procedure. The followings were identified as the results of the study: (1) The mother s acceptance of and positive adjustment to the child s disability were changed by the perceived potentials of the child; (2) the supports for the mother from the family members had different effects on the relationship between her and her child; (3) the mother s acceptance of her child s dream and hope varied with her trust for the ability of child and professionals who support her. The implications of the results and research limitations were discussed.
