The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of mother- and teacher-child intimacy on the link between the child s social behaviors and peer rejection. The participants were 264 four- and five-year-olds recruited from four day care centers. Children s social behaviors and teacher-child intimacy were reported by teachers while mother-child intimacy by mothers. Peer rejection was assessed by peer nomination. The results demonstrated a sex difference: The relationship of boys aggression with their peer rejection was moderated by the teacher-child intimacy whereas the association between girls3 withdrawal and peer rejection was moderated by the mother-child intimacy.
