The Mediation Effect of Parenting Flow of Mothers with Kindergarteners on the Relationship between Parenting Efficacy and Parenting Behaviors

The present study explored how mother’s parenting-flow experiences mediated the effect of her parenting self-efficacy on her parenting behaviors. Participants included 261 mothers of kindergarteners aged 3-5 years, recruited from three kindergartens in Busan. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, correlations, and hierarchical multiple regressions. The result showed that maternal parenting efficacy and flow experiences were positively associated with her ‘affection-encouragement’ and ‘limit setting’ parenting behaviors while negatively associated with ‘overprotection-permissiveness’ and ‘rejection-nonintervention’ behaviors. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that parenting flow partially mediated association between parenting self-efficacy, on one hand, and ‘affection-encouragement’ and ‘rejection-nonintervention’ behaviors, on the other hand. Furthermore, parenting flow fully mediated association between parenting self-efficacy, on one hand, and ‘limit setting’, ‘overprotection-permissiveness’ behaviors, on the other hand.
