The Effects of Story Creating Activities through Masterpieces on Young Children s Language Expression and Story Comprehension

This study investigated effects of story creating activities through masterpieces on young children s language expression and story comprehension. The subjects of this study were a total of 39 young children at age 5 years old. The children were assigned to an experimental group and a comparison group. For this study, Visual Que Wring Sample modified by Lee (1999) and Story Comprehension Test modified by Kang, Park, and Jun (2005) were administered to the children. The experimental group participated in creating activities through masterpiece while the comparison group participated in experience expression activities through masterpieces, the sixteen times, twice a week for eight weeks. Data collected from pre-test and post-tests were analyzed by Analysis of Covariance with SPSS program. The results of the study were as follow. First, the experimental group showed higher language expression including number of expressive vocabulary and number of sentence than the comparison group. Second, the experimental group showed higher story comprehension including interpretative question than the comparison group.
