Validation of the Parenting Satisfaction Scale

This study aimed to develop and validate the Parenting Satisfaction Scale [PSS], which was checked by parents with 3 to 5 year old children. The participants were 661 parents (332 fathers, 329 mothers) in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheong-do who completed the on-line survey. The content validity, construct validity, discriminant validity, and internal consistency were examined by using SPSS version 23. The results were as follows: First, based on the exploratory factor analysis, the PSS was consisted of 5 factors and 32 items which were satisfaction of presence of children (10 items), satisfaction of preparation in child rearing by couple (7 items), difficulty in child rearing (8 items), satisfaction of spousal support for child rearing (4 items) and satisfaction by participation of parent education program (3 items). Also, there were high correlation coefficients among sub-factors of the PSS. Second, sub-factors of the PSS showed high internal consistency. It was concluded that the PSS is a valid and reliable instrument to use for examining parenting satisfaction with 3-5 year old children.
