The Influence of Mother‘s and Child’s Characteristics and Contextual Factors on Parenting Anxiety Based on Employment Status of Mothers with 3∼5 Years Old Children

The purpose of this study is to examine mother and child characteristics and contextual factors on parenting anxiety based on employment status of mothers with 3∼5 Years old children. The sample for this study was 416 mothers with children aged 3∼5 years across the country, and data was collected through a research company using a structured online questionnaire. The research results are as follows. First, the average score of each of the four sub-factors of the mother s parenting anxiety scale was the highest in parenting responsibility, followed by perfectionism, parenting resources, and dependence on children. Second, the variables affecting mother s parenting anxiety differed according to the mother s employment status and sub-factors of parenting anxiety. However, among the personality traits of mothers, neurosis and the ethics of negative relations with the family of origin had an effect, and the novelty seeking among the temperaments of children affected the mother s parenting anxiety. However, relationship variables such as marital relations and social support did not affect them. Future research, theoretical and practical implications were added.
