The purpose of the study was to identify how solution-focused thinking and social support affect parenting stress in full-time versus part-time working mothers with children in early elementary school. The study included 90 part-time working mothers and 125 full-time working mothers, who were married and had children in early elementary school aged from 7 to 9. Parenting Stress Scale for Parents of School-Aged Children, Solution-Focused Inventory(SFI), and Social Support Scale were used to conduct separate surveys on both the spouse and the non-spouse member of the subjects. Data were analyzed with SPSS 25.0 to carry out descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows: First, parenting stress of part-time working mothers was significantly lower than full-time working mothers. Solution-focused thinking and the resource activation area, sub-domains of solution-focused thinking, were significantly higher than full-time working mothers. Additionally, the non-spouse social support and all sub-domains of social support factor were perceived to be relatively high by part-time working mothers. Second, only the problem disengagement of solution-focused thinking had a negative effect on parenting stress in part-time working mothers. Also parenting stress of full-time working mothers was influenced negatively by the problem disengagement of solution-focused thinking and emotional support by the non- spouse.
