This study examined the mediating effects of distress tolerance and impulsivity in the relationship between borderline personality traits and problem drinking. A total of 251 adults participated in this study by responding to the following questionnaires: borderline personality, problem drinking, distress tolerance, impulsivity. Data analysis was conducted to perform reliability analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, and structural model analysis. The results of this study are as follows: First, positive correlation between the borderline personality traits, impulsivity and problem drinking. Distress tolerance showed significant negative correlation with borderline personality traits, impulsivity and problem drinking. Second, the mediating effect of distress tolerance was not significant in the relationship between borderline personality traits and problem drinking. Third, in the relationship between borderline personality traits and problem drinking, impulsivity had a partial mediating effect. Fourth, in the relationship between borderline personality traits and problem drinking, distress tolerance and impulsivity were mediated sequentially. Finally, the significance and limitations of this study were discussed and the implications for further research were proposed.
