College Students’ Appearance Comparison Behavior, Appearance Modification Behavior, and Appearance Satisfaction at Video Chatting during COVID-19

This study aimed to investigate college students’ appearance comparison behavior, appearance modification behavior, and their appearance satisfaction at video chatting during COVID-19 and compare relationships between appearance related behaviors at offline and online. To achieve these aims, the data of 272 college students were utilized. Descriptive statistics, t-test, and correlation analyses were conducted, and results were as follows. First, the results revealed that college students actively used internet based online tools for game, SNS activities, and video chatting tools such as Zoom for un-tact classes during COVID-19. Second, female student’s appearance comparison behaviors were more than those of male students. Third, there were significant positive relationships between appearance related behaviors at offline and those at online. Forth, there were significant negative relationships between students’ appearance related behaviors at offline and their appearance satisfaction. Results of the study can help increasing our understanding on online self which was characterized with appearance related behaviors.
