대학 계절학기에 참여한 학습자의 경험 및 인식 탐색

A Study on Learner Perceptions of Seasonal Semesters Conducted by University: Focusing on Teaching Subjects

본 연구의 목적은 계절학기 수업참여 과정에서 겪는 대학생의 경험을 바탕으로, 계절학기 수강목적 및 결정 요인, 긍정적인 측면, 어려움 및 해결방안, 개선 방향을 질적으로 탐색하는 것이다. 본 연구는 코로나로 인해 비대면으로 진행된 계절학기 교직과목에 참여한 수도권에 있는 A 대학교 재학생 37명을 대상으로 시행하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 본 연구에 참여한 대학생들은 학점취득, 과목 특성, 여유로운 정규학기, 방학 중 의미 있는 생활 등을 목적으로 계절학기에 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 본 연구에 참여한 대학생들은 수업 집중, 빠른 일정 및 진도, 알찬 방학 등을 계절학기의 장점으로 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 본 연구에 참여한 대학생들은 자기주도적으로 온라인 팀 학습, 과제수행, 구성원 간의 친목, 현장학습 등에 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 본 연구에 참여한 대학생들은 짧은 기간의 집중적인 강좌 수강, 분주함, 팀 활동, 과제수행 등을 계절학기의 어려움으로 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에 참여한 대학생들은 최선의 노력, 철저한 계획수립, 긍정적인 생각, 동료와의 교류 등을 바탕으로, 상기와 같은 계절학기의 어려움을 극복하는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 본 연구에 참여한 대학생들은 계절학기 경험을 토대로 개선 방안을 제안하였다. 이와 같은 연구 결과에 대한 논의를 바탕으로, 계절학기에 적합한 교수법 지원, 학습자 적응 프로그램 개설, 학습자의 접근성 강화 등과 관련된 운영 방향을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to qualitatively explore the motivation and determinants of taking seasonal semester courses, advantages and difficulties when taking seasonal semesters, solutions, and possible improvements based on university students’ experience when participating in a seasonal semester. The subjects were 37 students of A university in the metropolitan area who took the online teaching profession courses due to COVID-19. As a result, first, the purposes of participating in seasonal semesters were related to credit acquisition, characteristics of the course, taking fewer credits during the regular semester, and spending meaningful vacations. Second, the participants chose higher concentration levels, shorter semester periods, faster progress, and meaningful vacations as the advantages of the seasonal semester. In particular, the study found that particiapants enthusiastically engaged in online team learning, achieving tasks, formed friendships among team members, and participated in the field experience. Third, it was shown that the participants perceived intensive short-term curriculum, heavy workload, team activities, and achieving tasks as the difficulties of the seasonal semester. Students who participated in this study overcame the difficulties by putting in their best efforts, planning thoroughly thinking positively, and interacting with other students. Fourth, participants suggested improvement measures based on their experience during the seasonal semester. Based on the discussion of these results, this paper presents operational directions related to providing teaching methods related to seasonal semesters, establishing learner adaptation programs, and reinforcing accessibility for the learners.
