Effects of Empathy, Cultural Competency, Social Responsibility on Multicultural Acceptance in University Students

Purpose: This study examined the effects of empathy, cultural competency, and social responsibility on multicultural ac ceptance in university students. Methods: Data collection was performed from Mar. 2nd to Mar. 21st 2022. One hundredand fifty-four university students were selected in Gyeongsangnam-do. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics,t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe&#884; test, Pearson s correlation, and multiple stepwise regression analysis using SPSS 25.0. Results:Multicultural acceptance was positively correlated with empathy (r=.32, p<.001), cultural competency (r=.45, p<.001), andsocial responsibility (r=.41, p<.001). The factors influencing multicultural acceptance were cultural competency (β=.36,p<.001), empathy (β=.17, p<.021), and sex (β=.14, p=.046). These factors accounted for 24.3% of the multicultural ac ceptance (p<.001). Conclusion: Cultural competency, empathy, and sex are important factors affecting the multicultural ac ceptance of university students. Based on this, an educational program that can positively change multicultural acceptanceis needed for multicultural acceptance.
