Research trends on play therapy for children with developmental disabilities

The goal of this research is to suggest a direction of play therapy for children with developmental disability, analyzing researches on play therapy intervention of children having developmental disorder. The number of researches presented nationally by 2017 were 69. As a result of analyzing researches by year, publication source, gender, age, type of disability, type of intervention strategies and the effect, from 1993 to 2000's researches had been carried out lively but it tends to decline after 2011. The researches mostly aimed to figure out the effectiveness of play therapy through pre/post-inspection. Type of intervention strategies were taken in order of Theraplay, O'Connor, and Development Play Therapy. Generally it had effectiveness of improving social skills, especially Theraplay resulted in advancement in capacity of social interaction. In addition to structured program, it is necessary to have an interest in various approaches to the therapy and have integrated approaches to extensive area.
